dear doris. where does creativity come from? what are you inspired by?
issue 21 ♡ creativity is the out-breath to the in-breath of source consciousness.
dear doris. where does the source of inspiration and creativity come from? what are you inspired by? love rose, northern beaches of sydney, australia.
dear rosie
i share my earth-bound experience and what inspired this newsletter in part I and then tune into my higher self aka doris through meditation and journaling in part II to answer your question on creativity and inspiration. this newsletter expands further from issue 14 sharing the creative (abun)dance floor. kindly note that ‘god’ can be substituted for any vernacular or venerable you prefer and ‘heaven’ for the etheric realm that resonates with you.
part 1.
i used to think you stumbled and fumbled your way to inspiration — that it would show up in a tangible form if you began looking for it, be it through a piece of fabric, a photograph or words lifted from a book or the spine of a book itself, that could be the catalyst for change or creative process. but now i understand that inspiration comes to us deliberately, energetically and in light beams.
little clues drop in from the heavens or higher realms or whatever plane you prescribe to — hoping that we connect with their energetic charge so it can lead us into the channel of the intangible through the way of the tangible. what we choose to do or undo with this gift/token/clue is totally up to us. it never lingers for long as it is industrious in its duty to drop what wisdom is much needed on earth. so you must pounce when it does, translating the feeling, notion or sensory onto paper, into notes, chords and keys.
the creation of this substack newsletter came from three main sources of inspiration. the first clue through the way of a podcast this is mariya where the host opens up the can of woo-woo worms by tuning into her higher self and records a channelled conversation weekly with her eyes closed. from this podcast i was spurred on by mariya’s way of channelling source, conversing with her higher self and how robust she was in sharing weekly digestible audio content.
the next clue came by the way of nick cave and the redhand files — a poetic newsletter by the artist/musician which i found through our common tie of parental grief and loss of a child. i leaned into cave’s musings as he allows his audience to ask him any question at all — he is completely open and answers them with gravitas, poetic justice and rocker wisdom via newsletter form categorised by numeric issues.
additionally,
and — two prolific writers and my og substack platform guides. with one tuning into meditation and journaling to tune into deep wisdom and the other steeped in vintage home & design. i wanted to combine these genres together with an authentic voice offering two lenses — one attuned to my higher self through my meditation practice to offer a spiritual perspective directly from source and my own earth-bound physical lens — as a working stylist and creative mother. additionally making it a collaborative open dialogue with the audience in the vein of the red hand files format.the confluence of these creatives infused with my own scavenging and scribing ways birthed a love child of sorts — dear doris. i have drawn a (higher) mind map of the process of inspiration and the clues dropped along this creative journey below.

part II
the seeds of inspiration are planted in all of us, in all human beings. creativity is the great expression of life and how we consume earth life. this is the direct connection to source/god consciousness that comes in a stream straight in the crown and heart spaces. we as humans need to know that this expression while comes through us, is not entirely of us. we are silly to think we are the genius who came up with great theories of the big bang and e=mc2 and all that scientific jazz or picasso’s peace dove or renoir’s lakes and monet’s lilies. while yes, it came through the artist/architect/scientist — it is not truly of them.
we are all but vessels of god/divine who beams creative shards of light energy into our hands and hearts to create beauty and magick here on earth. we are but atoms in a grand scheme of monolithic proportions. we are but tiny sparks of love and joy and disaster and danger and mightiness all wrapped up in one roll.
we are silly to think we own ideas and we are ignorant to believe we are our own source of creativity. however — when source finds its way into your heart, your light being — it becomes fractured, it splits into a new way of being, as your personal experience will tamper and torment that pure spectrum of light.
