issue 32 ♡ wind is flow & direction while water is weight & physicality
dear doris. what is feng shui? how do i integrate basic principles into my home & work space? love cameron, the windy city by the water.
dear cameron
the answer to this weeks question will form in part I tuning into doris to download insights she has to share on feng shui from a higher perspective. part II is a simple meditation offering and notes on creating your own intuitive space or temple corner within your home.
part I
take me where the wind blows, she blows. the element of wind is a powerful force that can direct the winds of change for anyone. understanding this element is an important part of feng shui 风水 which translates as wind 风 and water 水— the two components of home and heart that we must consider to create equilibrium and balance in our surroundings.
wind is flow and direction while water is weight and physicality or volume.
allow flow wherever you can, so the wind can circulate through from north to south and east to west. blockages to passages are like a clogged artery that disallows flow of blood and same goes for our living spaces. north-facing is always a good idea so you have the sun rising on your right and setting in the west on your left side.
so if you sit facing north, the shadow of light will move over you like a semi-circular cloud of energetic rays and cosmic energy that is aligned with the earths movements.
make sure your front door is never blocked allowing a stream of prosperity and purpose into the home. the backdoor must be able to swing open and shut accordingly to allow this flow in and out after it circulates through the home zones. there is a zone for prosperity or wealth as humans like to say, love and also for family and relationships.
you can invite more of the three main elements/resources into your life by simply rearranging furniture or pieces around. you can also navigate and create these home centres or spirals 𖦹 that move energy in a space and then circulate its way out. this can be cleansing for each zone as the air/wind flows in and out of each zone/room.
make sure there is easy navigation around your home — easy as in, easy on the legs, less on the eyes. if it’s easy to walk-through zone to zone, then the feng will find it easy too.
then there is water — the shui of feng shui. the water element is interesting as it is the balance of weight in a home, keeping it light and not dense and not overfilled with materials. water element is very sensitive and prone to change from slight alterations/irritations or changes structurally to a home and its general makeup. the water is more about the walls — but the walls must have an element of non-rigidity and be like water like the way bruce lee can break through a hard surface, the same concept applies to the shui of your home.
make sure shui/water is running fluidly in its daily operations and serving the community that lives in its ecosystem. every-thing must be running like water — so again, it comes back to flow — a physical flow of wind directed by the hard physical objects and a less obvious metaphysical flow of energy and intentions that flows from each inhabitant in the abode.
placing plants and greenery in areas will boost air flow and intake and keep the air fresh unlike stagnant old air that has been contaminated by negative charges and human contact.
the key is always coming back to flow — creating a flowing set-up and a flowing relationship with the actions taking place in the home. flowing actions and flowing direction of wind will lead to flow in all facets of life. a simple change can spark joy and relationship rectification or could bring an entire wall down — literally and physically. be mindful of structural changes to a home, as it will change the flow of direction immediately.
always seek advice or sit within a space and ask what it requires to expand and increase flow and chi into the space. the balance of the two will always lead to harmonious space and bleed into harmonious life for you and your famiglia.
